Social Service: Best Buddies

Social Service week was very changing for me. My whole views for a bunch of things changed. Being mature was one of them. Here are the things we learned each day.

MONDAY
Today was a pretty boring but important day of this week. We did a marketing inventory of a closet which wasnt much fun, I might admit. Administration papers, marketing closets and computers where all part of this day's basis. We met all the people who managed every best buddies activity in colombia and actually learned what work really means. The most important thing that I learned today was what careers are good for me, and marketing isn't one of them. Me and my friend Lorenna organized half a closet mostly filled with junk and office papers, which was actually fun at times, but mostly boring. I learned how the adult world really is, and it isnt even close to what I imagined it would be. Our classmates created a group of activities to do with the children on the rest of the week, which will be way more fun that today was.

TUESDAY
Today was a pretty disorganized day. At first we thought that we were going to see the kids, but then the school admin didnt let us out of school because we told them too late where we were going. At first I was really mad for the fact that we had to go and organize a closet again, but then I heard that we had the option to stay here at school and prepare for the activities we were doing for Wednesday. We cut papers, colored drawings and made paper airplanes all day. It was funner than what we expected for the fact that we werent organizing a closet. Me and some of my friends stayed here all day and organized everything we had to do. It was much funner that what I expected.

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY
These where the days that I wasnt here for a series of personal and family reasons and issues.

FRIDAY
Today we went to "Fundacion Cepytin" where the kids where. This wasnt the first day for most of us, but for me was new. Luckily I had worked with kids from Cepytin before so I wasnt that nervous. I met the kids, which where really nice. I saw that in the end we are all the same and that they are people just like us. This was a very changing day for most of it because I saw some disabilities that I hadn't seen before. There were a couple of kids that made an impact to me the most, which where Sonia and Miguel Angel. These kids changed my whole way of seeing society that i hadnt payed attention to before. We cant accept whats different, and differences arent bad at all. You could see their faces light up when we entered the room. You could see how happy they where for a person to treat them like they are, like people. We filmed Sonia and Miguel Angel saying what they thought and in the end we read a book about differences and said our last goodbyes. Right before we left I had the chance to see some of the kids that I had worked with before and had some time to talk. They where so happy to see me! I felt so welcome and happy, which was something I had never felt in a long while. This was a very special day for me that I will remember for a lifetime.
